Everglades Holiday Park Reviews

Everglade fishing

Holiday Park
★★★★★
Great fishing trip with Captain Bill Boliek. He put us on fish from the first cast at 7:30 am until we finished at 1:30 pm. We caught several nice peacock bass, lots of largemouth in the 2 to 3 pound range and the oscars were everywhere and quite an exciting fish to catch. I would highly recommend Captain Bill for a guide for fishing in south Florida as he is a very knowledgeable person with a great attitude.

BEST Fishing! Capt Wayne Fellows (Aquaman) took us to the ocean, and we caught so much fish we started tossing the smaller (21") mahis back! Next day at the Everglades, the guy is technically a fish whisperer! We are already looking to schedule a trip back. Thank you for the fun weekend Capt Wayne!

★★★★★
On lake Ida for peacock bass with Cap. Mike. One of my favorite days ever on the water. Great guide and even more importantly great guy. He said the bite was kind of slow but he put us on fish all day long. Would definitely go out with him again. We ended up losing count of how many we caught but it had to be between 40 and 50. Book him I promise you will not be sorry .

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT EVERGLADES HOLIDAY PARK

Holiday Park Boat Ramps

Some recreational users are air-boaters, anglers, birders, campers, equestrians, hikers, bikers, kayaks, canoeists, power boaters, picnickers, tourists, scouts, and photographers. Many such users are involved in organizations such as Florida Trail Riders, International Game Fish Association, Broward County Airboat, Halftrack, and Conservation Club.

Boat Ramp

Everglades Holiday Park does not own the boat ramps, they are FWC boat ramps. Although the FWC and Broward County work together to keep access. It is not the best place to use and definitely not angler friendly, minutes after to arrive you understand the people running the park don’t care about boater access. The complete focus is on big Airboat operation and selling tickets. With that said, you have the same right to the boat ramps as anyone. In the front parking lot, there a double ramp, very easy to use, and has good docking. Based on the time of day, it can be a mess getting in and out the ramp due to tour buses and people for the airboat tours. The parking lot for your truck and trailer is located in the rear of the main building in a field, again attempt to get anglers not to use this location.

There is also a boat ramp at the far west side of the parking lot, known as the airboat ramp but open to boaters. It is pretty tough to get to and turning around with any size rig at all can be difficult at times. The fishing in this area, especially when water levels are lower is simply fantastic and worth fighting with the airboat operation. But it will definitely make your trip not the most satisfying experience. We highly recommend calling FWC by clicking here if your experience is less then pleasant do to the airboat operation.

Use this ramp if you have your own boat or rent one of ours. If you do not choose to rent, a local professional guide is the most popular approach. Enjoy the area without limits, under normal hours this location is open 24 hours a day so you can enjoy amazing Everglades fishing. The Everglades is a family fun trip, a day of fishing at Everglades Holiday Park is a unique way to enjoy the wonders of the outdoors – quite, calm, peaceful, and relaxing. The beauty is fantastic, and you’re sure to encounter a few wildlife surprises during your adventure.

Fishing Techniques

The best times to fish the Everglades Holiday Park are from May to July. This time of the year offers quality size fish in the 3-8lbs range and fantastic numbers of bass caught per day. Weekends, boat traffic can be a problem, but mainly at the boat ramp and parking lot. It known to Floridians and has been quoted by the Fish and Wildlife Dept as the #1 fishery in Florida for numbers of fish caught per hour.

Everglades is legendary for the number of bass and most of those are caught on plastic. This could is in the forum of a Senko, Lizard, Swimbait and they continue to produce year after year. Ranked consistently as one of the top lures for the everglades is a topwater lure, and the Zera spook by far is the local favorite and produces to this date the best for big fish. The good thing about Everglades fishing is you really don’t have to be a professional angler and know all the specifics about the lures mentioned. Best of all just go fishing, take what you have it will probably work. You can enjoy fishing with both artificial lures and live bait. Wild caught live shiners are ultimately the bait of choice everywhere when looking to catch that trophy bass, but in the Everglades domestic shiners work very well also.

Bass anglers can have success using also deep-diving crankbaits and Carolina-rigged worms in deep river channels. Early morning and late evening topwater bites can be good near the flats along the creek channels. Cichlid fisherman can enjoy catching on live minnows or jigs along the edges of the dropoffs. The action is red hot almost all year round.

Everglades Bass Fishing tips

There is no “special” magic bait for the Florida Everglades bass fishing. The live bait or what the locals refer to as shiners will always work best. Always start your morning with a topwater lure, spinnerbaits, and chatter-baits when the wind is blowing hard. Plastic worms are a go-to all the time, especially on those hot calm days. Double-digit bass are not normal for the Everglades, but the normal bass gets pretty fat and big fish are around 8lbs. Use floating lures near a structure (lily pads, sunken trees, etc.), commonly known as hollow body frogs, and hold on tight. Be sure to compensate with line size and use braided line for getting them out of the Lilly pads, generally, 30lb to 60 braids is commonly used.

You have available everything you need including tackle, all that is missing is you. Driving down the canals of the Florida Everglades is truly the ultimate fishing experience before you leave for your next trip make you read an update Everglades fishing report to cut down on the learning curve. Another favorite among local ways to catch Everglades fish is on a fly rod, using any type of topwater bug, fly or lure. Seeing the bass come to the surface and suck that fly is something you won’t soon forget.

This is also a good way to teach yourself fly fishing or someone else. You’re able to catch a lot of fish and experience what it’s like to fight a fish on a fly rod. For beginners, start with a long rod, this is a starting point to get the basics of casting down. Then work on accuracy and distance which will help you land more fish. For everyone wanting, knowing, or with interest in bass fishing, its the place that is magical over other locations.

About Everglades

To achieve the optimal public recreational experience at Everglades Holiday Park (EHP)Broward County is collecting information related to Everglades Holiday Park to develop a vision of the optimal opportunities for public recreation for the area. The vision must not only reflect the recreational needs of residents and visitors, but also recognize environmental and regulatory constraints, our history and heritage, and historical educational opportunities in a sustainable manner. This was a statement from Broward County when they took it over, as of the date they have just make it a money-making airboat ride for tourism with little to NO effort for the locals.

A farmer’s legacy of public recreation to Broward County Everglades Holiday Park is strategically located on land that was owned by a Broward County farmer who generously contributed the site to Broward County for public recreational use. The site was identified as a proposed recreational site by the agency that ultimately became the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Broward County leased the land to the agency that is now known as the Florida Fish and Game Conservation Commission, which in turn sublease it to a series of very bad concessionaires.

The site’s four boat ramps provide boaters access to a significant portion of the Everglade when there not completely blocked by the airboat operation. EHP is Broward County’s only direct access to the Florida Everglades. Currently, an educational group called Science Eye runs an environmental science education program for school children and others. The SFWMD’s Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program (CERP) has preliminary plans for a new parking area that has never been built after ten years. A bridge over the C-11 canal, restrooms, and an informational kiosk were immediately build to help increase the airboat operation revenue which the County get s a cut of. Broward County’s Greenways and Blueways master plan proposes a major trailhead at the site that would ultimately give multipurpose trail access throughout Broward County.

With a little luck, the boat ramps will stay open and maybe even get rebuilt, but we wouldn’t bet on anyone reducing the airboat operation.
